Getting there
If you’ve never travelled to Mull before, the journey itself is one of the highlights. Allow plenty of time to take in the scenery, stretch your legs and indulge in some fish and chips (the Real Food Cafe in Tyndrum is fabulous!).
There are two main ferry crossings to Mull: Oban to Craignure and the shorter Lochaline to Fishnish route. Both accept cars and foot passengers.
If you’re taking the Oban to Criagnure route, then we strongly recommend you book in advance as the boats can get full up – and make sure you arrive at least 30 minutes before your departure time to ensure you get your reservation. It’s also a good idea to fill up with fuel in Oban as there are limited options on Mull.
For the Lochaline to Fishnish route, you simply turn up and get on the next available boat – but you may need to wait during busy periods.
Once on Mull, the journey through ‘the glen’ from Craignure to Bunessan is one of the most beautiful drives you can imagine, whatever the weather. Allow around an hour and keep an eye out for deer, buzzards and errant sheep. If you’re in luck you might even spot a Golden Eagle or an otter along the way! Enjoy.
